Re: Strange encounters with West Ham players
Me and a mate was watching the Ireland v Holland Euro 96 play off in the Golden Lion in Romford, when half the West Ham squad walked in to watch it, Potts, Martin, Dowie etc.

Didn't speak to them but Moncur was constantly singing 'What an atmosphere' by Russ Abbott. Couldn't see that happening with today's squad!

I went to some black tie do at the Dorchester which was a pre world cup 98 lunch with guest speakers and auction etc.
my company at the time were the main sponsors. I was a director and very good friends with the CEO, both of us life long west ham fans, so got to sit at the head table with our invited customers and the guest speakers, who were George cohen, martin peters, Geoff hurst and sir trev.
because it was our table, me and my mate got to arrange where our custys sat, so naturally fucked them and I got sat between Geoff hurst and sir trev while my mate sat between Geoff hurst and martin peters.

after a very long (very boozy) lunch, speeches and auctions, it was time to go.

still sitting, I shook sir trev's hand then lent in and kissed him square on the forehead with the line 'that's for 1980'.

Geoff hurst and peters looked mortified but luckily the great man saw the funny side!

must admit I do cringe now when the story gets retold.

you kissed brooking?

i have to say that's quite tame compared to your usual stories, i thought you were about to say you had a 4 way scatfest with them.

Can I implore people to respect the point of this post.

Strange encounters.

Not everyday encounters.

It's gonna be mucho boring if we get any more "bumped into pottsy in sainsburys" type posts.

Accidentally meeting a minor celebrity is not newsworthy unless said celeb did or said something extraordinary.

Final game at Upton Park - I was standing on the steps of the Church on Green Street watching the Man United coach getting attacked when out of nowhere I was being hugged. I couldn't work out who it was, only that it was a black man. When he stepped back, it was Herita Illunga.

Newham general hospital in 2008
My mum was having yet another operation for cancer. I went to get refreshments. As I turned into the corridor I met Danny Williamson who was attending to his grandad. We had a chat about his property investments in Cyprus and his injuries. Everton were only interested in claiming insurance. Nice ordinary bloke

It's a not me but.......

I know a few nurses. Not long before he left West Ham Lampard jnr was in hospital for a groin operation. Local private ward. First thing in the morning the ward manager, who I know very well, had to allocate the jobs for the morning, one of which was to shave Lampard's pubes off. As soon as it was announced another nurse, who I happened to also know and that a mate of mine described as a proper dirty cow, insisted she was doing it. So off she went with a razor and a dish. I know for a fact that she kept the pubes! Hahaha!

I used to clean Mooro's car every Sunday morning. Nothing special in that but not many WHU supporters can claim to have seen the great man in his pyjamas. Very tasteful, light blue with a claret B on the pocket.

What a lovely bloke. Always very polite to a pair of local ragamuffins trying to earn a few bob

Must have been '74, I'm at Robert Clack school in Becontree Heath and at the start of a PE lesson we're told that a Mr Brooking will be taking the lesson for our group. Yep, Sir Trev was having to slum it for some coaching badge or other. Football? No no, it's the summer term so it's athletics - he's going to be 'coaching' us for HIGH JUMP. Bit strange.

I think I've met most of the team over the past three years at David Lloyd gym at Gidea Park. They should to walk up and down the indoor pool for strength training 1-2 mornings per week.

Was in the changing rooms Beckton Power League about 7 years ago, just out the shower, and saw a saggy old nutsack in front of me.

That nutsack belonged to Alvin Martin.

He was of decent length, nothing to be ashamed of at all.

Di Canio outside my office in bond st about 16 years ago on my lunch break with a fellow hammer.

He went and asked for his autograph, while I just stood there in awe.

Strange thing was Paolo told his wife to take the kids off and come back in 30 mins so he could chat to us until our lunch was over. Legend.

Don't think I said a word!!

Was sitting in the stalls watching one man two guvnors with James Corden. Immediately to my left were Robert Green and his missus. This was at the time he was refusing to sign a new contract. Got weirder when Simon Callow then sat in front of us and I had to stage whisper to the Greens what his name was because they recognised him.

About 10 years ago was got onto a packed central line. After a few stops and a bit of shifting around I find myself literally bodily pressed up against Sir Trevor. Was actually too close to say anything and he got off before me. Didn't kiss him mind.

was in japan teaching english in 2002, my flight home was just after the world cup.

in front of me in the queue to get on the flight - Sir Trev.
Legend, autograph, hero worship etc. Absolute solid gold gent.

Also saw the bbc commentators, Hanson, Motty etc.
Hanson turned out to be a prize twat.

Was in Gatwick on a trip back from Rome meeting the missus parents for the first time and I spotted Di Canio ahead of me going down the escalator to the baggage claim.

I leave the missus in my dust and sprint after him, uttering barely a word, we have a chat and had to hold myself back from hugging him.

Once finished I proceed to tell the missus that it was the highlight of the trip, it was.
